About the program
The CFP Professional Ambassador Program is a new initiative of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) aimed at seeking out those CFP practitioners who proudly promote their CFP professional status.
The program aims to:
- Increase the awareness of the CFP professional brand amongst consumers
- Encourage all CFP professionals to promote the brand to consumers at an individual level
- Increase the standard of professionalism by encouraging future planners to become CFP professionals
Entrants in the program must outline why they chose CFP certification, and demonstrate the ways they personally promote the CFP Marks to clients, peers and the wider community.
The Board Certification Committee is now searching for the FPA’s second CFP Professional Ambassador, to join Rodney Lavin who was appointed as the inaugural CFP Ambassador in January this year. The second CFP Professional Ambassador will continue the journey in promoting the CFP professional brand to consumers, peers and the wider community.
Rodney gave us this feedback on his experiences so far as the inaugural CFP Professional Ambassador:
“I sincerely hope that having been the inaugural CFP Professional Ambassador has started the ball rolling in us all starting to think about how we can progress OUR profession. The highlight of my term was to hear from dozens and dozens of colleagues who share my passion in our profession. I am very proud to call myself a financial planner and always have been. I have loved being the inaugural ambassador and will continue doing whatever I can to promote our profession."
Rodney has been involved in a range of activities since being announced the ambassador, including being quoted in a range of consumer media and editorial promoting the ambassador and CFP professionals, and speaking at various events promoting the CFP Marks.
Entrants in the program must outline why they chose CFP certification, and demonstrate the ways they personally promote the CFP Marks to clients, peers and the wider community. The selected ambassador will stand out as being passionate about CFP certification, their profession and promoting high quality advice to the public. The ambassador will be a positive role model among the financial planning community and will be publicly profiled to help raise awareness of the CFP Marks among consumers, key stakeholders and within the financial planning profession.
The program is open to all current CFP practitioner members, from newly fledged CFP professionals to those almost ready to retire.

Entries into the CFP Professional Ambassador are now closed. Thank you to those who have submitted an application. We are in the process of review the applications and the second ambassador will be announced in later in the year.
