After your studies you can upgrade your membership to become an Associate Financial Planner (AFP) or General member, and then work your way to becoming a CFP® professional. At each level of membership, the FPA can provide you with various resources to support you.

Access to web library / resources You will have access to the exclusive members section of the FPA website for a range of technical and industry information. There is an abundance of resources available to assist you with your assignments or in your work environment.

Publications to keep you up to date and informed As a student it is important to be aware of what is happening in the industry to improve your understanding, but more importantly when you go for those job interviews you can make a great impression by knowing about the important issues facing the industry.

- CEO e-news – the FPA’s fortnightly e-newsletter that provides you with information about what’s happening in the FPA and the industry.
- Financial Planning magazine – sent to members monthly, the prestigious industry magazine is sure to keep you up to date with what is going on.
Education and Professional Development Programs to excel your career Once you establish your career as a financial planner, and you become a member of the FPA, you will have an obligation as a professional, to keep abreast of current regulatory and legislative changes that are occurring within the financial planning sector. The FPA offers a range of Professional Development courses to assist you to remain up to date and provide the best service to your clients as possible.
It is also important to continue your education once you have finished your studies at University. You can become a CFP Professional by completing the CFP Certification Program that the FPA offers. The CFP Mark is the highest professional certification that can be awarded to a financial planner and is also a globally recognised qualification.
You can also gain a designation reflecting your higher knowledge and skills in specialist areas of advice. The FPA Specialist Accreditation Programs are designed for FPA practitioner members, both CFP ® professionals and Associate Financial Planners (AFP), who have demonstrated, through experience, education, examination and ethics, their eligibility to use a FPA granted, post nominal designation providing evidence of their competence in specific areas of advice.
