Structure

FPA is governed by an elected Board and operates through the executive, member committees, and a network of geographically based Chapters and Principal member forums representing and serving members at a local level.

Board

The FPA Board identifies priorities for member activities, key services, policies and operating strategies. The Board is required by its Constitution to have five elected directors. Two (2) directors representing Principal members (one [1] elected director representing Principals with 20 Representatives or less and the other one [1] director representing Principals with 20 or more Representatives); and three (3) directors representing practitioner members. The Constitution allows the FPA to invite up to three (3) independent directors to join the Board. The Constitution also appoints the CEO to the Board. Director elections will take place on a three year rotational basis.

Committees

The FPA Board sets the strategy and priorities of the Association, delegating responsibility for policy development within agreed strategic priorities to a number of Board committees:

  • Audit and risk management
  • Remuneration and Succession Planning
  • Membership and Marketing
  • Professionalism, and
  • Strategic Policy

Each Board committee is chaired by a Board director.  The first two committees comprise Board Members only, and the other three committees comprise a cross section of FPA members with relevant experience.

The Board committees have other committees and taskforces focused on specialist areas.  The taskforces are set up with a specific objective and are disbanded when that objective is achieved.

The Complaints and Disciplinary Committee and the Conduct Review Commission comprise a number of experts and both report to the Board.

Chapters

FPA Chapters – currently 32 in number – operate in cities as well as major regional centres throughout Australia.

Each Chapter is run by an elected committee made up of FPA members and is responsible for promoting and supporting member activities and implementing agreed FPA activities, particularly professional development seminars and workshops, at a local level.

The Chapters play a prominent role in public awareness and information activities such as FPA’s Financial Planning Week, held each year in the last week of May.
